Lions International District 105SW

Activities
Serving communities across the South West and Beyond

Message in a Bottle
Message in a Bottle provides a simple way for people to keep essential medical and personal information in one place where emergency services know to look – the fridge.
Lions clubs distribute the bottles free of charge within their communities, helping emergency services quickly find details such as medication, allergies and emergency contacts when responding to someone at home.

Sight
Supporting people who are blind or visually impaired and helping prevent avoidable sight loss has been part of Lions service for more than a century.
Across District 105SW, Lions support vision screening, spectacle recycling, eye-health awareness and projects helping people with visual impairment. Our clubs also work with schools and communities to help identify potential eyesight problems at an early stage.

Hearing
Lions support people affected by hearing loss through local projects, awareness and the collection of unwanted hearing aids.
Across the British Isles, donated hearing aids are collected and recycled, helping equipment that is no longer needed find a useful purpose and supporting hearing projects further afield.

Childhood Cancer
Childhood cancer is one of Lions International’s global causes. Lions work to support children undergoing treatment, their families and the organisations that care for them.
This can include fundraising, providing practical support, helping hospitals and charities, raising awareness and supporting projects that make life a little easier for children and families during treatment.

Mental Health & Wellbeing
Mental health and wellbeing is an increasing focus of Lions service. Clubs can help by raising awareness, reducing stigma and supporting projects that bring people together.
From community events and wellbeing activities to supporting local organisations, Lions and Leos are finding practical ways to help people feel supported and connected.

Environment
Caring for the environment is one of Lions International’s global causes and gives clubs plenty of opportunities to make a difference locally.
Projects can range from litter picks, recycling and tree planting to improving community spaces, reducing waste and supporting wider environmental initiatives.
Small local projects carried out by clubs can add up to a much wider impact.

Youth
Young people are an important part of Lions service. Across the District, Lions work with schools, youth organisations, Leos and community groups to provide opportunities for young people to get involved.
Lions youth programmes encourage volunteering, leadership, creativity and international understanding, while giving young people the opportunity to make a difference in their own communities.

Young Ambassador Award
The Lions Young Ambassador Award recognises young people aged 15–18 who give their time to help others and make a positive contribution to their communities.
Lions clubs can nominate and sponsor young people to progress through the competition, giving them the opportunity to share their work and ideas at District, British Isles and potentially European level.
The programme is not simply about recognising what a young person has already achieved – it also helps them continue and develop their community work.
