News from Haiti

Lions Clubs International in Haiti from the start, still there, until the finish - rebuilding the community.

Within hours of news of the magnitude of the major earthquake in Haiti, Lions Clubs from across the British Isles and Ireland were busy fund raising and making donations to our Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to provide immediate response aid to the people of Haiti.

Peace Poster 2010-2011

The Peace Poster Kits are now available and the theme for this year is “VISION OF PEACE”.

This is the opportunity to encourage young people in your local community to think about the importance of World Peace, tolerance and understanding and to pass on their thoughts. Encourage these young people to share their unique visions with the world through pictures.

Public Relations Training Workshop

Ever aware of the need to take every opportunity to enhance the impact of our Lions image and awareness of our activities on the public, both locally and across the British Isles and Ireland, and to gain the availability and professional advice, we have organised a training workshop which will be available to all clubs. We suggest that this is an opportunity which should not be missed and is in particular aimed at those with responsibility for Public Relations and Membership promotions, but does not exclude others who feel they will benefit from attending.

This new perpetual trophy has been kindly donated by IPDG Lion Graham Lang.

It will be awarded for the best Club website in the District and will be judged this year up to 5th March 2010, with the trophy being presented for the first time this year at District Convention.

Heather's Appeal

The last steps to finalise IPDG Graham's Wife, Heather's Fund were taken at the end of October. Thanks to the generosity of Clubs and Partners throughout the District Heather was delighted to find that donations totaled just under £6,000.00.

National Memorial Arboretum

Located in the heart of the country within the National Forest near Lichfield, the National Memorial Arboretum comprises 150 acres of over 50,000 trees and over 150 memorials devoted to the concept of Remembrance and acknowledging the enduring sacrifice of those who mourn their loss - But they need help and, in our diamond anniversary year, we are asking every club to consider signing up to answering their need.

District Competitions 2009 – 2010

The entry forms for the Quiz and Skittles competitions are below and Lion Hazel would be grateful if you could fill them in and return them as requested, each with a cheque made out to Lions Clubs International District 105SW (Competitions), by 31st May 2009 latest

Quiz

A full copy of the rules can be accessed via the link below, but in summary the same questions will be asked of both teams consisting of four players plus an official (Question Master or Time Keeper).


Skittles

Again a full copy of the rules can be accessed via the link. Where 8 players are in both teams, each playing 6 hands or 6 players each playing 8 hands (the latter numbers if mutually agreed by both teams which enables smaller clubs to participate).


Visiting Lion Competition

This competition commenced on 1st March 2009 and ends with reports received by Lion Hazel on February 28th 2010.


Scrapbook Competition

The scrapbook submitted must be for the past full year i.e. in March 2010 at Convention the scrapbook for 2008 – 2009 will be judged.
