Lions Clubs International Youth Exchange Programme |
Every year young people aged between 18-21 are given the opportunity to visit other countries. Youth exchange is not tourism or a free holiday; it is to share the family and community life of another country. The idea is that they can learn from first hand experience the culture, religion and way of life of another country (and more about the work of Lions Clubs International).
Youth Exchange usually takes place at the end of July and involves 10 days stay with a host family followed by 10 days at a Youth Centre or Camp. All of the students spend part or all of their stay with a host family.
There are two youth camps in MD105, one in Ireland, (early part of July before hosting), and one in the UK, (end of July after hosting).
A local Lions Club sponsors each student for the cost of travel (to and from the host family) and insurance.
Host Clubs and Host families are responsible for the costs of all accommodation, meals and outings; (this includes theatre tickets and entrance fees), the total expense depends upon the itinerary that the individual Club or Lion decides upon. A Lions Club may sponsor a host family for up to a maximum of twelve pounds fifty pence per student, per day, from the Charity account.
Helping the youth of the world to understand each other is one of the best service activities a Lion can do, and besides that you will enjoy it! It is great fun! Every Lion is entitled to host; all that is needed is to have an interest in, and enjoyment from, meeting other people.
Give Youth exchange a try - by yourselves - or as part of a club or zone project.
