Peace Poster

Created in 1988, the Peace Poster Contest gives young people throughout the world a chance to think about world peace and creatively express what it means to them.

Between 1988 and 2009 more than 5 million children have been challenged to draw, paint or sketch their interpretation of world peace. A different theme is selected each year and young people create a poster that reflects peace as they see it.

The contest is open to children aged 11, 12 or 13 years of age on 15th November 2009 eligible birth dates are November 16th 1995 through to November 15th 1998.

THE POWER OF PEACE" is the theme of the 2009 / 2010 contest. Lions Clubs can sponsor the program in their community in schools, youth groups etc. The contest is a wonderful opportunity for clubs to work with youth in their community to stress the importance of peace, tolerance and international understanding. The contest encourages young people ages 11-13 to think about peace, creatively express what it means to them and share their visions with the world.

Contest packs are available from your District Peace Poster Officer Lion Marcia Cook 01297 20673 at a cost £8.00 per pack. The pack contains full instructions and rules of the competition.

The 2008/2009 winner was Jessica Whittick from Park School, Yeovil. Her poster was selected to represent the South West in the Multiple Districts contest.

Jessica together with Isabelle Zannelli also a Yeovil Contest winner and Molly Edgley sponsored by Glastonbury Lions Club attended our District Convention in Plymouth to receive their recognition and prizes.

The District winning posters will be displayed in Wells Cathedral during the first 2 weeks in June 2009.
