The Lions Clubs International Foundation in conjunction with the Gates Foundation is endeavouring to raise $15 millions for an initiative to vaccinate worldwide against Measles, a disease from which 450 children die each day.
For every $2 raised by the Lions the Gates Foundation will match with $1 and it is hoped to raise the $15 million by the end of the fiscal year 30th June 2012.
Any Club who would like to make a donation please send the cheques to PDG Brenda Wood payable to LCI MD105 Appeal Fund and on the back of the cheque designated ‘Measles’.
Return to top of PageAny Lion member can be a contributing bronze member of the Lions Clubs International Foundation for just £15.00 a year. Each year you will receive a new pin and your name is recorded against your membership record at Lions Clubs International Headquarters.
Perhaps a Club could consider making their out-going President a contributing member.
Anyone wishing to become a Contributing member please contact PDG Brenda Wood.
The Lions of 105SW have once again embraced the call to help in providing a
third Children’s Hospice in the South West of England so that each
County in their District is able to provide Hospice support for any child
within 90 minutes of their home.
With the help of a matching grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation they were able to present a cheque for £46,560.88 to the co- founder and Chief Executive of the Hospice services in the South West, Eddie Farwell, to pay for the part of the Hospice to be known as the Lions Den, a quiet family area where parents are able to stay at night and talk to members of staff should they wish.
The Little Harbour Hospice will provide individual children’s bedrooms, accommodation for parents and siblings, along with play and therapy facilities, such as a messy play area, a Jacuzzi, multi-sensory room and chapel.
It will offer 24 hour palliative and end of life care, support for family members, as well as help, advice and support in bereavement when it opens in December.
Many Lions had the opportunity to visit the Hospice for a tour prior to its opening and PDG Lion Brenda Wood, District LCIF Officer, thanked all the Lions of the South West for their support with this project and also announced that there was still some money left in the kitty to for soft furnishings of the Lions Den and other part of the Hospice.
