Lions Planting A Million Trees!

An important part of our extension of service this year is caring for our environment.

Our goal this year is to plant a million trees around the world and here in District 105SW we are hoping to plant some of these by creating at least one Lions Woodland which ideally, will be accessible by the Community!

Clubs may also wish to conduct smaller tree plantings within their own communities!

Any of us can plant a tree. It’s a very visible and hands-on way for each and every Lion to make a difference. It’s also a great project to invite your community at-large to join your Lions club in a collaborative effort. If we can plant a million trees across the World, it will reinforce the limitless potential we all know we have to make a difference as Lions.

I am still looking for land to plant as many trees as possible to create large or small woodland. If you can help please contact me:

If you are looking to plant trees in your community then check out this link: http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk and click on The Jubilee woods
project.

For more information please read the following documents:

  1. FREE community tree packs from the Woodland Trust PDF Document (917 KB)
  2. The Big Tree Plant. A national tree planting campaign led by a partnership of conservation organisations and voluntary groups working with the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Forestry Commission. PDF Document (1.29 MB)

District Environment Competition.

The District Environment Competition runs each year until 31st January, entry forms are available on request, the closing date for entries is 20th February.

A trophy will be presented to the winning club at the Annual SW District Convention, plus three certificates for the runners up.

Just a few ideas for your Clubs’ project:

  1. Energy Conservation.
  2. Gardens and landscaping.
  3. Wildlife Conservation.
  4. Stream and Pond clearing.
  5. School environmental education and awareness.
  6. Recycling.
  7. Tree planting.
  8. Fencing, walling, gate and stile repair and replacement.

All of these projects could give your Club, and Lions Clubs International increased public awareness locally, and maintain a better environment. If you require any further information, or even better an entry form, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Lion Ian
